2018 Honda Civic Type R Engine
Under the hood is a turbocharged 2 liter engine that's good for 306 horsepower to go along with an impressive 295 pound feet of torque. And that's plenty of power especially considering that this thing is front-wheel drive. We was expecting a lot of torque steer in this car, considering it sends all that power to the front wheels, but there's almost none to speak of here. Part of that is due to the limited slip differential that's included as factory, but the other part of it is just how linear the acceleration is. When you get on it, whether you stomp on it or roll on to the throttle, it's just nice and smooth all the way through the rev range.
Now part of that has to do with the fact that this engine is turbocharged. So it gives it that low end power that you want and then at the top end VTEC kicks in to just smooth it out all the way up to red line.
Now I'm usually not a fan of how light Honda's clutches and shifters are, they just don't really feel all that engaging. There's nothing to really judge what You're doing, You don't get any feel and feedback from them. And likewise there's a little bit of resistance in that clutch pedal, so you know when you're engaging, you can actually feel it in your foot.

The underpinnings also get a whole bunch of new components including adjustable adaptive dampers that can be switched on the fly from comfort to Sport at the flick of a switch on the console. 2018 Honda Civic Type R it also features dual axis struts up front that helped improve cornering performance, as well as big Brembo brakes up front with four piston calipers and two piston calipers in the back. If speaking of cornering performance I was expecting this thing to under steer. But there's absolutely none to be detected when you push it through a corner.
2018 Honda Civic Type R is definitely a monster out on the streets. Once you put your foot into it your corner exit is just so ridiculously fast that you barely have time to react before you're at the next corner.
Now getting back to the drive mode selector unlike the Civic Si which only has two modes to choose from this car has three ranging from comfort to R now as you would imagine; comfort, is pretty comfortable, it's really cushy.
