If you're looking for an affordable crossover to buy, you have a ton of options that all ring in at less than $25,000. So here are the cheapest crossovers you can buy for 2017.
Coming in at number 10 is the Chevrolet Trax. Priced from $21,000 including destination. The Chevy Trax got a facelift for the 2017 model year. Along with a new front end a new bumper the trucks also gets a new instrument cluster and a lot of new safety technology like blind zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision alert and lane departure warning. We like the crossovers engine transmission and surprisingly roomy interior, but we weren't huge fans of its interior finish and the seat comfort.
Coming in at number nine is the Jeep Compass. Jeep actually offers a few affordable options and the compass is actually the most expensive one on this. List it starts from $20,995 in the US and it also got an update for the 2017 model year. We recently had the chance to get behind the Trailhawk version and we were really impressed with its approach angle and how comfortable it was to drive on the road. It does however last cargo space and if you're planning to go off-road don't expect it to be a ultra smooth ride.
Coming in at number eight is the Nissan Juke which will be discontinued next year. Priced at $20,250 is a good chance you can come away with a deal, because Nissan will want to get rid of left over juke before they're discontinued making them even more affordable. it is believed that the Nissan Juke will be replaced by the Nissan kicks.
Coming in at number seven is the Fiat 500X. Not everyone is a huge fan of the styling but if you like the quirky style its pricing will surely be attractive to you as well. It starts at just $20,000 in the US and the Fiat 500X features a decent engine and the UConnect infotainment system, but don’t expect it to have the same charm as a smaller and cuter Fiat 500, and that's pretty unfortunate because it doesn't drive like a bigger version of the compact car. Instead we came away feeling that had kind of wonky driving dynamics, a stiff suspension and poor fuel economy.
Coming in at number six is the Mazda CX-3. The compact Mazda CX-3 one of the cheapest crossovers available starting at just $19,960, but you'll come away impressed with what you get for that money. Although we love the way the Mazda CX-3 drives and looks, we do wish that it had more power and more cargo space.
Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Coming in at number five is the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Starting at just $19,795 it was recently updated for 2018 model year and gets new interior and exterior enhancements and it will arrive at dealerships this fall.
Coming in at number four is the Honda HR-V starting at just $19,465; the Honda HR-V has a really impressive list of standard features. Although it's not the most stylish car you can buy for the money, it is a very sensible choice. We enjoyed the HR-V cargo capacity, affordability, fuel economy and lane watch camera, but we don't really love the way it drives.
Coming in at number three is the Jeep Patriot. The Jeep Patriot hasn't been changed in a couple years and it's about to be discontinued. But unless you're a real fan of the Patriot and you want one before they're discontinued, we advise just waiting because this model hasn't been updated in a really long time and you might be better off going for the Compass.
Coming in at number two is the Jeep Renegade. One of Jeep newest models is a subcompact Renegade and it's actually the most affordable one with a starting price of $17,995. The compact crossover is surprisingly worthy of the Jeep nameplate, and we came away impressed not only by how great it drives on pavement by how reasonably, capable it is off-road and Trailhawk trim too. In addition the Jeep Renegade makes good use of its interior space and of course has a really low starting price.
And the cheapest CUV you can buy right now is the Kia Soul. With the starting price of just $16,100 in the US this boxy crossover is arguably Kia's most iconic model. When we drove it so we were impressed by its sporty driving dynamics and premium interior, but we're a little bit disappointed by its somewhat noisy engine. The good news is buyers can pay a little bit more to upgrade for a turbocharged engine with 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.
