2018 Volkswagen Tiguan this happens to be a prototype model of the VW brands latest compact crossover vehicle is scheduled to go on sale in the US this summer. And Volkswagen have been doing some interesting work with this product. It’s all new and it features a new fuel saving powertrain as well. But before we get into all of that we have here, the new model as I mentioned in the US we're going to get the long wheelbase version which is about 10.7 inches longer, than today's Tiguan with a wheelbase of just a less than 110 inches.
2018 Volkswagen Tiguan which is a huge increase. obviously. it also comes with an optional third row seat. now the third row is standard in front-wheel drive versions and it should be available for extra in models equipped with the company's four motion all-wheel. drive we've been putting it to its paces as you can see the tires are good. you know testing the four motion system out in the dirt. not that most customers are going to take their Tiguan wands to the bottom of a gravel pit but it's good to know that you can.
2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Features
So what else is worth mentioning here I talked about the third row seat? You’ve got things like you can get adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and automatic high beams. These are all things that are becoming pretty standard in the end Street today. But it's always nice to have them as an option. you also get standard LED daytime running lamps and tail lights, as for other technology, Volkswagen digital cockpit is available. This is sort of stealing a page from the Audi playbook.
2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Fuel Economy
And what that means is they're closing the intake valve. on the compression stroke they close the intake valves very late in the cycle, which I guess increases the expansion ratio and the spark plug fires gives you more volume for the air & fuel mixture to expand into. so you've got eleven point seven to one compression ratio it has variable intake valve lift which helps enable this and both second is claiming that consumption fuel consumption will be down quite considerably, the engineer displaces two liters what they're telling us that it's going to deliver the power of a 1.8 liter, four cylinder engine with of course the fuel economy of a 1.4 liter engine both know final figures are available right now. again this vehicle is not going on sale until this summer. what else is there worth noting other. they've done some other optimizations inside
2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Design
The engine to reduce friction of course and one of the major things they've done is they've made the main bearings a little bit narrower cuts down on friction considerably. What else somebody says it looks old already you know I don't mind the styling it's very classic, very timeless. You could argue 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan design is rather boring, I happen to think it's handsome. and this is a product that's going to look you know it's going to look nice in 20 years where I don't know if a Honda CR-V you could say the same thing for instance. What else is there to say again if you've got questions?
2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Specs
Engine specs well 2 liters as I mentioned it's a good point, this TSI turbo is rated at 184 horsepower which is kind of low, but it makes up for that I think with abundant torque, which peaks at 221 pounds feet, and it's matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission or as we've got here in the Tiguan SEL 4motion all-wheel drive, which is quite capable off-road. Yeah this engine the B cycle is all about efficiency and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan has really optimized it to burn as little fuel as possible sort of in the mid range of its power band where you spend most of your time driving.
The big news once again with this 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is that newbie cycle 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Just to recap 184 horses’ 221 pound feet of torque. And drastically improved efficiency they're saying upwards of eight percent ,more efficient than the previous engine I believe they're 1.8 liter engine even. So that's a pretty pretty big difference and it looks like it's going to do quite well in their future products they've got it coming out in the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan later this year.
